    5. The following table shows the population in the six wards WARDS. Area in Acres. Population. It will be seen that while the increase has taken place generally in all the wards, it has been most marked in Boldmere and Maney. BIRTHS. 7. Four hundred and six births were registered during the year and show a very marked increase on the number of the previous year, which was only 347. This gives us a Birth Rate for the year of 19-41, much more satisfactory than the previous year and the highest for the last five years. 8. The number of illegitimate births was only 3, a very satis¬ factory figure compared with that of last year when 10 such were registered. 9. I am glad to be able to report that speaking generally, the adoption of the Notification of Births Act has been a great success. It has not been altogether as great a success as it should have been, because in some instances Notifications have not been sent in by medical practitioners present at the birth.
