Preface on fol. 1r includes: "The supply of limbs is being undertaken by various engineering and ship-building establishments in the Clyde district, who are kindly undertaking the work not as a matter of business, but in order to cope with the great demand for artificial limbs, and the firms who are so engaged have expressed their willingness to undertake the manufacture at the actual cost of production." A letter accompanying the Wellcome Library's copy of the album, from Harold E. Yarrow to Surgeon General M.W. Russell, 4th September 1917, on the letter-heading of Yarrow & Co. Ltd., Scotstoun, Glasgow, indicates that Yarrow & Co. Ltd was one of the firms mentioned
