![N° 24,887 A.D. 1908 i Date of Application, 14th Nov., 1903—Accepted, 7th Jan-, 1904 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION. Improvements in or relating to Physical Development or Exercising Apparatus. (A communication from The Cartilage Come any, of 87, Prince Street, Rochester, New York, U.S.A.) 1, Alfred Julius Boult, of 111, Hatton Carden, in the County of London, Chartered Patent Agent do hereby declare the nature of this invention and in what manner the same is to be performed, to be particularly described and ascertained in and by the following statement: — 5 The present invention has for its object to provide an improved apparatus that is particularly useful in carrying out certain exercises formulated for the development and treatment of the human body, and it consists in certain novel combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed. 10 In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view illustrating one embodiment of my inven¬ tion as applied to the body of a patient, and Figure Z is an enlarged detail view illustrating the head and body supports. The apparatus constructed in accordance wTith the present invention embodies 1 a a supporting yoke 1, carrying a pulley 2 through which is rove a cord 3 having one end thereof fastened as at 4 to a ceiling, or other convenient support, its opposite end passing over a relatively stationary pulley 5 and being pro¬ vided with balls b or other devices for affording a firm and convenient grasp for the hand. The ends of the yoke 1 are upturned or curved to form hooks 20 7—7, having double recesses 8—8, into the inner pair of which engage the rings 9—9, carried upon the extremities of the band 10 adapted to engage beneath the chin of the patient, which ’s provided with a covering of felt or other suitable material 11 to prevent abrasion of the skin. A head strap 12 is fixed to one of the rings 9, and the opposite free end passes through a buckle 13 2,') attached to the ring at the opposite side of the yoke. This device is adapted to be fitted to the head of the patient in the manner shown in Figure 1, the band 10 being passed beneath the chin, and the strap 12 passed around the rear of the head and tightened to the desired degree, to firmly retain the device in position, and if desired, assist the band 10 in sustaining the weight imposed 3 , upon it, A body supporting strap 14 having a loop 15 at one end resting in one of the recesses 8, 8 of the yoke 1 is adapted to be passed around the body and be¬ neath the arms of the patient, the opposite free end thereof being provided with a linked chain or other adjusting device 15il adapted to engage the hook at 35 the opposite side of the yoke, whereby the length of said strap may be ad¬ justed as desired to a patient’s body.
