Description

Dutton, Joseph Everett and Todd, John Lancelot: Journey with Captain Sangster through British Kommbo. Holograph MS. by Dutton, with additions by J. L. Todd. Some of Todd's entries are in pencil. Dated from 4 November to 18 December 1902. On first fly-leaf is an inscription by Todd dated August, 1939: 'This book records observations and notes made while travelling in the Gambia in 1902, by J. Everett and J. L. Todd. [Continued in red ink]. The main object of the trip was to ascertain the presence and prevalance of blood parasites in human beings and animals. Fresh and dried, fixed and stained microscopical preparations were made of those examined.'

39 ll. 4to. 201/2 x 201/2 cm. Written in a cloth-bound exercise-book. A few leaves have been torn out at the end.

Biographical note

Captain (afterwards Major-General) Patrick Barclay Sangster (1872-1951) had served in India in the Tirah Campaign, and was later with the Indian cavalry divisions in France and Palestine.
