Description

A Journal of a passage from Bengal...to England thro' Arabia, Persia, Turky, and over part of [the] Mediterranean Sea to Venice, and from thence thro' Germany to Utrecht, the Hague and Helvoet Sluvs. By Mr. Pigot, late Sugeon on board his Majesty's Navy. Author's holograph MS. The journey lasted from 25 November 1757 to 12 February, 1759 when the author was at Helvoet Sluys. On that part of the journey from Calcutta to Latakia, Pigot travelled with Edward Ives [ -1786], a Surgeon of the East India Company, and author of 'A voyage from England to India in 1754....Also a journey from Persia to England, [etc.]'. 1773. In this book Ives mentions Pigot as 'late Surgeon of a bomb-vessel', and as 'a handsome youth of about twenty' (p. 314).
