About this work

Description

Lecture notes of a 'Cursus philosophicus' given by Jacob Vernet, containing Parts 2, 3, 4 only of 'Philosophia naturalis': in Latin. With additions in French. Illustrated by rough pen-drawn diagrams and figures. There are many blank leaves and gaps in the text. The three parts contained in this volume are: Pars II De corpore simplici seu de mundo, caelo et elementis (ff. 60-138 + 18 ll.). III De ortu et interitu seu de corpore generabili et corruptibili (44 ll.). IV De anima (90 ll.). There is a colophon on the sixth leaf from the end. 'Finis tractatus de anima et physica die undecimo mensis iulii anno millesimo septuagesimo [sic] quarto [1784?] qui tractatus fuit traditus a reverendo R.R. patre Vernet.' This may be Jacob Vernet [1698-1789], who lectured on theology and other subjects at Geneva University. Many of the blank leaves and gaps in the text contain notes and extracts on ecclesiastical history, etc. in French, by the same hand as that found in No. 6 of de Bardonnèche's other volume of notes (MS. No. 1662). The latest date among these notes is 1793, on the 60th un-numbered leaf. Produced in Geneva.
