Notes

The following description was provided by James Gardiner: Two of the gurning individuals on this British real photo postcard ca. 1905 are wearing pantomime dame costumes and make-up. The term 'pansy' in this [case] has no gay connotation. The term 'pansy' as a pejorative word meaning effeminate was current in America by the 1920s (James Gardiner).
