    SECTION A - STATISTICS OF THE AREA In 1894 the Urban District Council of New Mills succeeded the Local ooard or Urban^Sanitary Authority which had conducted the ^ airs^of the District since 1875. Newtown^ fomnerly in the Rural District of Disley in Cheshire, was added in 1876. New Mills is situated in North-West Derbyshire, its western border forming part of the boundary between Derbyshire and Cheshire, The town has many and varied interests and is a centre for the textile pint ins trade. Textile engraving, bleaching and dyeing give employment to two-fifths of the population. Paper-making, confectionery, metal working, stone—quarrying and llpt engineering are other industries of the scattered township. Parts of the hamlet of Rowarth, of Ollersett Moor and of ihornsett are included in the Peak District National Park and are within easy reach of the Kinder Heights, popular with all hill climbers• Areas (in acres)....
