Description

Said to have designed a chair for people with spinal defects which was named after him. From 1823 chaplain of Preston gaol, where he gave much attention to improving the methods of moral reform of the convicts. "He also wrote the report on the sanitary condition of Preston (1842) used by Edwin Chadwick in his sanitary report" (Oxford dictionary of national biography)
