About this work
Description
Prof. Robert Young (historian) presents this appraisal of the work of Charles Darwin. He discusses the effects of Darwin's theory of evolution on contemporary religous belief and argues that it need not create conflict with belief in God. He considers the influence of Darwin on our own times, seeing a version of his theory in the social policies of Ronald Reagon and Margaret Thatcher, with their "Lifeboat ethics" of the survival of the fittest.
