Description
Father Time, aided by two personifications of fame, unfurls a tapestry on which is represented a girl personifying Holland, accompanied by Religion, Liberty (holding the cap), Mars, Navigation, and Mercury. The border of the tapestry contains medallions representing the princes of Bavaria, Burgundy, and Austria, who ruled the Netherlands up to the time of Charles V (who is shown in the lower border). A woman representing the art of medal-making presents Painting with a medal as evidence for the history of the Netherlands. Below, putti and genii leaf through books, and design medals for the work. Left, a battle, apparently between Dutch and Turks
