About this work

Description

Multidrug therapy (MDT) These are 100 mg capsules of clofazimine for the treatment of leprosy, taken as a part of MDT. The drug has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity. The common side effects of clofazimine are skin pigmentation (patients should be warned that clofazimine is excreted in the sweat) and icthyosis (more of a problem in pale-skinned patients). More uncommon side effects are abdominal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, cramps and malabsorption. Clofazimine should be taken with food or a glass of milk to minimize these. (Above drug regime and description as edited in 2001)
