Description

Clinical surgery, From Joseph Lister, F.R.S., Session 1874, 1875. Bound with notes of other lectures on Public Health, Medical Jurisprudence and Pathology by Thomas Laycock [1812-1876], in a note-book labelled 'Clinical notes'; compiled by [Sir] Abraham Garrod Thomas [1853-1931] when a student at Edinburgh University. Compiler's holograph MS. The notes of Lister's lectures are contained in the 80 pp. at the end of the volume. The preceding items are notes taken down by Thomas.: (2) On Public Health and Medical Jurisprudence, 1875 (261 pp.). (3) Anatomical demonstrations, etc. (39 ll.). Partly inserted loose in a smaller note-book. (4) Infirmary notes, 1875 (24 ll.). (5) Laycock (T.). Pathology, 1875 (54 pp.). With other miscellaneous notes, the latest dated 1879. Produced in Edinburgh.

Biographical note

The compiler obtained his M.D. at Edinburgh in 1878, and practised later at Newport (Mon.) where he was particularly associated with the building and work of the Royal Gwent Hospital, of which he was Chairman for many years [Cf. B.M.J., 1931, Vol. I, p. 288].
