Description

Cooking book. A collection of cookery receipts, with a few medical receipts by several different late 18th cent. and early 19th cent. hands. 'Mrs. Rudsell' is inscribed inside the upper cover, and there is an inserted notem 'Gift from Rich[ard] Rudsell to his beloved Child Mary Rudsdell, Feb.ry 24th 1813'. Above the signature 'Mrs. Rudsell' is that of 'Hen. Fleming', who seems to have been the original owner of the book. His name is also found on an inserted printed advertisement of 'S. Dunbar, at the Paper Warehouse of the late Robert Dunbar [died 1744], Original Maker of Emboss'd Paper Hangings, in Aldermansbury, near Guildhall, London'. This contains a bill dated April 18th, 1752 for imitation chintz and other paper-hangings, with a receipt signed by James Karon [?]. The verses, starting at the other end of the volume are by several hands c. 1775. Inside the lower cover is an inscription: 'Cooking Book'.
