About this work

Description

Notes of cases and treatment, written by an anonymous apprentice medical student. This MS. is apparently a fair copy of notes made by a medical apprentice. In the earlier parts he speaks frequently of 'my master', who may perhaps have been Dr. Thomas Wadsworth [1676-1733], mentioned on p. 38 in an entry signed 'W.W. 1730.' This MS. itself however seems to have been written in 1755 as stated in an account of a case on p. 125. This begins: 'A gentlewoman being very ill Dr. Shamberg was call'd in I having an opportunity to see her then found her in the following manner. This being the 1st of January 1755 ...' The physician mentioned is probably Isaac Schomberg [1714-1780], M.D. of Cambridge in 1749, by Royal Mandate, who practised in London [see the Dictionary of National Biography]. Produced in London.
