About this work

Description

This tape is the recording of a sermon delivered by Dr Stanley Browne on 26/1/1986 documenting the work of the Baptist Missionary Society (BMS) in treating leprosy and also other illnesses in a range of locations.

Side A begins by reaffirming the importance of supporting the treatment of leprosy across the world and documents the problems faced in doing so (such as drug resistance and the nature of the illness itself). It also provides an overview of the work conducted by the BMS in Africa, India, China and also Taiwan including personal accounts of visits to leprosy hospitals. Browne informs listeners of support provided by actors such as Audrey Hepburn for the organisation. Side A includes readings from Luke 17:11, Matthew 11:1-6 and Mark 6:1.

Side B includes a summary of work being carried out in Ludhiana in treating eye disease and the lame. In addition Browne tells listeners about the opposition he faced in introducing new medications in the treatment of leprosy in the area and the way in which this was overcome. A trial conducted on a former student increased confidence in the new medications. He shares stories of his travels through India, Africa and China and the individuals he encountered there before ending the sermon with a prayer.
