Collection of medical and cookery receipts: with additions by several hands.
The first 58 pp. contain cookery receipts.
On p. 71 is a receipt for 'my purg [sic] which I take that Mr. Smith the surgon [sic] ordered me. Eliz. Godfrey'. In the margin is the date 1686. 'Mr. Smith' cannot positively be identified, but he could perhaps be the Nathaniel Smith, anatomist and surgeon, who died in 1723 as entered in Musgrave's Obituary, Vol. V, and possibly identical with the 'Student of Physic' of that name, who wrote a tract attacking the Quakers in 1669 [cf. B.M. Catalogue].
A number of receipts bear the initials 'H.C.', who is Hester Chambrelan as stated on the verso of the fourth un-numbered leaf.
