About this work

Description

This MS. is a Dutch translation of the first part of the 'De alchimia opuscula' published by Cyriacus Jacobus at Frankfort in 1550 in Latin. The order of the tracts is different from that of the original; and the greater part of the 'Scala', as well as the whole of the pseudo-Aristotelian 'Practica lapidis philosophici', are wanting. Contents: 1. Correctio Fatuorum. 2. Clangor Buccinae. 3. Lully (R.). Vade mecum. 4. Vrouwens Werck ende Kinder Spel [Opus mulierum]. 5. [Arnoldus de Villanova.] Semita semitae. 6. Avicenna. De tinctura metallorum. 7. Lully (R.). Compendium der Arte der Transmutatien. 8. [Montanor (G. de).] Scala philosophorum. [Incomplete.] On the recto of the first leaf, autograph inscription by 'Juan Martin de Oloris[z] Cirusano maior del terscio del Mester del Campo Don Pedro Cavalla fecha en Oudenarda...1662'. Below 'Este libro es de Juan de Oloris[z] ...en Cambray... 1639'. On the verso of the same leaf, by the hand of the writer of the MS.: 'Copie van eenes boeck geschreven met de hand gheheets [?] 'Turba' die mij ghelient [?] is van Mr Guillaume Le Petit goudsmidt'.
