About this work

Description

These adults are waiting to have their visual acuity tested outside a health clinic in Tanzania. A 'tumbling E' visual acuity chart is being used. The person who is being tested is seated on the far right. Visual loss from trachoma rarely occurs in children, but is found in adults. It is a consequence of long term damage to the cornea from inturned eyelashes. Although loss of vision cannot be corrected, surgery may prevent further damage and eventual blindness.
