About this work

Description

These are congenitally athymic ('nude') mice used in leprosy research. Inoculation of Mycobacterium leprae into the foot pad of the mouse will eventually lead to disseminated leprosy. This animal model has been used to detect M. leprae bacilli and to study modes of transmission, chemotherapy and induced type 1 (reversal) reaction.
