Biographical note

'Leopoldinus Priamus' is the pseudonym of J. J. Waldschmidt [1644-1689], and his treatise on tea was printed in 1685. The author of the 'Usus herbarum theae' may possibly have used the pseudonym of 'Rhazes', which is the last word of the title. In this short work, the anonymous author expresses the exalted ideas of tea as a universal panacea, to be found in the 'Van het excellenste Kruyd Thee' by Cornelis Bontekoe [1647-1685], of which it is possibly an epitome: the original was first published in 1678.
