Description

Recording of an experiment session at the University of Oxford parapsychology laboratory led by Steve Abrams, along with a recording of a hypnosis session. Contains three tracks on the first side of the reel and two tracks on the second side. Recorded at mixed speeds (1 and 3 3/4 ips and 7 1/2 ips, mix of stereo and mono tracks).

-Side A, track 1 (mono): snippet of a radio broadcast, followed by Steve Abrams beginning a recording and talking about the quality of the microphone. Cuts to an opera recording at 00:02:20 and continues to the end of the track. (00:14:20)

-Side A, track 3 (mono): Abrams carrying out a hypnosis experiment on a man named Laurence (see also PP/SAB/A/3/20/1). Cut to an Italian opera recording at 00:05:45 and then cuts at 00:06:20 to a recording of Abrams and other men undertaking a drawing experiment regarding transmission. (00:22:19)

- Side A, tracks 1 and 3 (stereo): Steve Abrams and a group of other American people chatting, whistling and singing whilst Abrams sorts out the recording equipment. Crude, informal conversation. (00:11:08)

- Side B, track 2 (mono): recording of an event or meeting, beginning with informal conversation. Abrams does not appear to be present. At 00:11:00 it cuts to an English male voice dictating various letters in reply to ones received and then reading aloud a chapter of an unidentified work. Cuts to men talking (00:14:30) about cost of printing something and how many pages it would be. Cuts to an Italian opera recording at 00:24:30. Cuts at 00:25:25 to Abrams setting up a recording. Cuts back to opera at 00:26:20 and continues to the end. (00:38:02)

- Side B, track 4 (mono): radio broadcast including the new headlines, weather forecast and shipping forecast. (00:35:12)
