Description

George Halliday, the then Retreat Archivist, was asked in 1968 by J. Rendel Ridges to research and assemble together, from the Retreat archives, information about the Retreat estate and boundaries, because Ridges was involved in writing a report on the subject (see RET 2/2/17/3). File includes the following: 1. Acknowledgement to George Halliday, Retreat Archivist, for the assembled papers, 10 January 1969 2. Typescript copy of a Schedule of Deeds and Documents relating to properties purchased before 1920, prepared by G H Mennell in 1920 (another copy of this can be found at RET 2/2/10/9) 3. Typescript Memorandum relating to the original purchase of land for the Retreat prepared by Joseph R Naish, solicitor, of Ford and Warren, Leeds, November 1968 4. Typescript Memorandum prepared by George Halliday, Archivist, on his research through the Retreat minute books to ascertain the origin of the walls and boundary fences around the Retreat estate, c 1968 5. Typescript Memorandum prepared by Grorge Halliday, Archivist, on his research through the Retreat archives concerning the land on which the Retreat is erected, c 1968
