Artifical series of records transferred from USA to UK.

The papers mostly date from the immediate years following Burroughs Wellcome Co's move from Tuckahoe, New York to Research Triangle Park, North Carolina in 1970.

Most of the material appears to have been collated by Fred A Coe Jnr, President of the company from 1968 and 1981 and includes cuttings describing the work of Burorughs Wellcome Co and speeches made by Coe during this period.

Biographical note

Started in 1906 as the American "house" of Burroughs Wellcome & Co in London and was originally known as BW&Co New York. Up until then BW&CO products had been distributed by Fairchild Brothers & Foster.

On 26 May 1925, after the formation of the Wellcome Foundation, the company was renamed Burroughs Wellcome & Co (USA) inc. This was later changed to Burroughs Wellcome Co in 1969/1970.

The company was located in New York City, until 1925 when it moved 22 miles north to Tuckahoe, New York. Under the Presidency of Fred A Coe Jnr, the company was moved to a new site at Research Triangle Park in North Carolina in 1970, and was officially incorporated there on 17 August 1970.
