[1] cover sheet: "'Caught in time.' A case of T.B. About 1000 new cases of T.B. are reported in England and Wales every week. The case of John Smith, which we see here, is a typical case of T.B. which has been 'caught in time'. There is a good chance of a quick recovery if T.B. is detected early enough; that is why early detection is a vital weapon in the fight against T.B."

2. "The manager sends for John Smith. I've good news for you, Smith. We're going to put you in charge of the new department when it's ready next month – you must take care of that cough of yours, you know. Oh, it's nothing much. I think it's the tobacco I've been smoking."

3. "John arrives home. We'll be able to afford a really good holiday this year, Mary. I'm being promoted next month. That's wonderful, John. But I do wish you'd see a doctor about that cough of yours; it really has gone on too long. Will I be able to have a new bicycle Daddy?"

4. "John Smith sees his doctor. I'm afraid there are one or two things that worry me ... A persistent cough like yours can be dangerous if neglected. I should like you to go to the chest clinic and have an X-Ray. I wish I'd take my wife's advice and seen you earlier."

5. "At the chest clinic a week later. Who'd have thought I had T.B. This will be a blow to my wife, and as for my job ... It's very unpleasant news for you Mr. Smith, but luckily you've had the good sense to come to us before it has gone very far. So you've got a good chance of a quick recovery."

6. "John Smith tells his firm. We want you back with us as soon as you are well, Smith. I can’t say what will happen about your promotion; that will depend on how long you are away. I wish I’d had an X-Ray when the mass radiography unit called last year."
