1. Victualling certificate for the warship Marquis, signed by Claude de Forbin (1656-1733), comte de Forbin-Gardanne, captain of the vessel. Brest, 26 June 1692.

2. List of casualties resulting from the capture of the warship le Maure by the enemy on 24 October 1710, and the costs of replacement incurred by the vessel's captain, M.Ducoudré. Brest, 20 July 1714.

3. Licence for Jacques de Bourdieu to serve as a ship's surgeon on long voyages. Bordeaux, 4 November 1723.

4. Certificate of invalidity on behalf of several marines, signed by [Gaspard] Cochon-Dupuy (1710-1788), 'premier médecin de la Marine au port de Rochefort'. Rochefort, 15 April, 1762.

5. Receipt ('quittance') by M. Hariague, naval surgeon at Bayonne, for ninety livres for his quarterly expenses for October - December 1783. Bayonne, n.d. [c.1784].

17. Order from Charles Baudin (1784-1854), rear-admiral, commanding the French naval forces in the Gulf of Mexico, relating to the loss of medical supplies in a recent fire. Aboard the frigate Néréide, 10 January 1839.

18. Petition from M. Friot, surgeon-major of the steamship Le Météore to Charles Baudin, highlighting the inadequate provision for treating ill and wounded aboard the vessel. N.p., 27 February 1839. Superscribed with a note by Baudin referring the case to Ferré for his opinion.

19. Letter from Ferré to Baudin supporting Friot's case and suggesting transfer of patients from Le Météoreto the hospital in the fortress of San Juan de Ulúa as an interim measure. Acquisition note

The majority of these documents were purchased from Charavay, Paris, in July 1930 (acc.63921), April 1931 (acc.64715) and November 1934 (acc.67129). No. 1 was purchased from Maggs Bros Ltd, London, in September 1928 (acc.48877). The source of no. 4 is unknown.
