Biographical note
For James Neild, philanthropist and prison-reformer, see the Dictionary of National Biography There seems to be a slight discrepancy as regards the spelling of this name. He is called 'Nield' in this MS., and in Pettigrew's printed 'Memoirs of Lettsom': the D.N.B., however, enters him as 'Neild', though it has a reference from 'Nield'. From the Pettigrew Collection.
