Biographical note

Markus Moritz Kalisch (1825–1885), Scholar, Hebraist and biblical commentator.

Dr. Robert Reid Kalley (1809–1888), Scottish physician and Presbyterian missionary.

Sir Robert John Kane (1809-1890), Irish chemist.

Alfredo Antunes Kanthack (1863 - 1898); Brazilian microbiologist; Fellow of King’s College, Cambridge; Professor of Pathology, Cambridge University from 1897.

Sir Bernard Katz (1911-2003), German-born biophysicist, noted for his work on nerve biochemistry. He shared the Nobel Prize in physiology or medicine in 1970 with Julius Axelrod and Ulf von Euler; Professor and Head of Biophysics Department, University College, London, 1952–78, then Emeritus, Hon. Research Fellow, 1978.

Arthur MacMorrough Kavanagh (1831–1889), Irish politician.

Robert Keate (1777-1857) was a noted British surgeon; Keate held appointments to George III and George IV, and later became sergeant-surgeon-extraordinary to William IV, and in 1841 sergeant-surgeon to Queen Victoria.

Thomas Keate (1745–1821), surgeon; Keate was surgeon to the prince of Wales, afterwards George IV; he was the uncle of the surgeon Robert Keate (1777–1857).

James Keene (1834-1883), surgeon; 1878 he was elected Aural Surgeon and lecturer on Aural Surgery.

Sir Arthur Keith (1866-1955), Scottish anatomist and anthropologist; museum curator and paleoanthropologist; a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and Hunterian Professor and conservator of the Hunterian Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons in London; leading figure in the study of human fossils.

Skene Keith (1858-1919), special Assistant Surgeon in the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary until 1888; Consulting Surgeon to the Hounslow Hospital, London.

James Kendrick, the elder (1771-1847), botanist; president of the Warrington Natural History Society.

James Kendrick (1809-1882), son of James Kendrick (1771-1847), writer on Warrington antiquities; made excavations at Wilderspool; collected seals.

John Kenrick (1788-1877), English classical historian; tutor in classics, history and literature; wrote historical and philosophical work.

Sir Alfred Keogh (1857-1936), army medical officer; Director General of the Army Medical Service in 1904 and reappointed to this position at the outbreak of World War I. Under the scheme devised by Keogh, public buildings were earmarked for use during times of war; this far sighted policy proved crucial in World War I. He was appointed Rector of Imperial College London and served from 1910–1922.

Dr. Claude Buchanan Ker (1867-1925), surgeon and lecturer in infectious diseases; graduated M.B, C.M. in 1890 at Edinburgh University; became interested in mental work and took the certificate of the Medical Psychological Association in 1891; his interest turned to infectious diseases and in 1896 he wrote his M.D. thesis on typhoid fever, for which he was awarded a gold medal; in 1898 he became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and was elected a fellow of the College in 1901.<'p>

Norman Shanks Kerr (1834-1899), physician and temperance advocate, a social reformer; he was a Medical Officer of Health, in St Marylebone, and thought alcoholism was a disease, not a sign of moral failing.

William Hypolitus Keating (1799-1840), American mineralogical chemist who discovered several minerals including red zinc ore, franklinite, dysulsite, and zinc carbonate.

Sir Geoffrey Langdon Keynes (1887-1982), surgeon and literary scholar. Younger brother of the economist John Maynard Keynes. Knighted for his pioneering work on blood transfusion during the First World War.
