Sparrman, Anders (1748-1820)

Notes and extracts from Sparrmann's 'Voyage au Cap de Bonne Espérance'. Notes on the Hottentots, Genghiz Khan, etc. The 129 pp. contain the extracts from Sparrman's work, and the notes on the Hottentots, 3 ll. are devoted to an account of Genghiz Khan on small 4to. sheets. The last two leaves have a short meditation on death, and a copy of the Latin inscription on the grave of Maria Joanna Victoria née Atger, wife of Dr. Ange Elisabeth Louis Antoine Bonnier d'Alco. It is possible that Bonnier d'Alco is the writer of these notes, which are all by the same hand as that of the epitaph.

Anders Sparrman (1748-1820) was an explorer. Ange-Elisabeth Louis Antoine Bonnier d'Alco (1750-1799) was a lawyer and envoy of the French Republic. He was President du Cour des Aides at Montpellier, his wife died in 1784, and he himself was assassinated at the Congress of Ratstadt in 1799, which he attended as Envoy of the French Republic.
