Description
Diary including a voyage from Southampton to Calcutta to take up the post of Staff-Assistant-Surgeon to the 27th Regiment. Author's holograph MS. Illustrated with a few inserted pen-drawings of churches, coast-lines, etc. The diary starts on 13 August 1861 with a tour in the English Lake District: the author left Southampton on 4 February 1862 and arrived at Calcutta on the 12th of March. He was gazetted to the 27th Regiment, and the diary ends on December 31st, 1862 at Gondali.
