    OBSERVATIONS ON RHEUMATISM. 3 Chronic species, of the muscular fibres, or of the cellular membrane, must also be admitted. But which of these it is, the muscular fibre, or cellular mem- brane, that, in either species of the dis- ease, is primarily affected, is a matter not quite so manifest.
