About this work

Description

The clinic at East Street, Walworth Road, was originally opened in 1921 as the Walworth Women's Welfare Centre by the Malthusian League, the second birth control clinic to be opened in the UK. It subsequently became a Family Planning Association clinic; when this moved into new premises, the Brook Advisory Centre moved in. The Brook National Office was also based at Walworth. In 1991 there was a celebration of this 70 year continuous record of providing reproductive health services in South London.
