Description

Anonymous receipt book written in several hands. Cookery, medical and household recipes are listed separately, with cookery at the front of the volume, a few household recipes in the middle, and medical recipes at the back. However, the odd recipe can be found in the wrong section of the volume. There is no index or contents page.

The volume is arranged as follows:
1-57 cookery recipes
58-77 blank
78-79 household recipes: linseed bran (Sir Astley Cooper), cleaning sponges using oxalic acid, removing ink stains using oxalic acid, and plate powder. Also includes a recipe for camomile tea by Dr Wolsingham.
80-111 blank
112 recipe for lip salve, Miss Phillips, Chester Place, along with a note that she died of water on the chest at Deptford in 1830.
112-113 loose sheet inserted containing a list of ingredients and quantities (e.g. cloves 1/4 of an oz)

114-128 medical recipes (114-115 contain recipes for treating calves rather than humans)
