About this work

Description

The sarcophagus of Pharoah Seti I was discovered in 1815 by Giovanni Battista Belzoni, who brought it to England. He first offered it to the trustees of the British Museum for 2,000 pounds. When they refused in 1825 John Soane bought it for that amount, and held a three-day reception to honour the acquisition
