Biographical note

Irene Sankey was enrolled as a Queen's Nurse in 1941 and was a Queen's Visitor at the time of her report on nursing of tuberculosis patients. She was involved in the campaign for a separate regulatory body for district nursing which was active particularly after the Queen's Institute ceased to provide training itself, chairing the meeting of the Association of District Nurse Administrators and Tutors with the RCN as well as the Conference of District Nurse Administrators and Tutors. She retired in 1976 due to ill health. She gave these papers to the Institute in 1990, and her two letters accompanying the deposit can be found in file Z.4/1
