Description

Desk calendar illlustrated with tales of Indian medical folklore, produced by Burroughs Wellcome Ltd, Montreal. Includes advertisements for the Wellcome product Septra, which had just been made available to the Canadian medical profession at that time.

The folklore tales included are taken from the following publications: Dr Eric Stone, Medicine Among the American Indians; Louis B. Wright, Everyday Life in Colonial America; Harold E. Driver, Indians of North America and Oliver La Farge, .

Some examples of the folklore in the calendar include the tradition of making a small sand painting in order to heal a child and the use of tobacco to cure many ailments, such as, headache, toothache, snake bite and rheumatism.
