Description

A drape billows around the woman's body as she looks to the right; her hand rests on a pedestal around which plants are growing. One of 283 emblem illustrations included in the Kunstbüchlin that were used as templates for the training of art students. On the verso, an image of St Jerome and his lion which appeared on the previous page of the manual.

Lettering

Bears monogram 'MF', reference to the block cutter Monogrammist MF Bears inscription in pencil on verso at the bottom right of the paper mount: 'No. 908. 2 Aug. XV'

There is a pencil drawing of 2 figures on the mount and on the verso, a doodle of what looks like a family tree - the name 'Hall' is at the end of the left branch of the tree
