Within each print, part of a shogunal procession is visible, perhaps depicting a (rare) visit by the shogun and leading retainers to the emperor in Kyoto: possibly during the period in the year when Tōkaidō became congested with daimyō lords returning home after their regular period of attendance; within a vastly telescoped landscape, key features are accented: Numazu Castle (4), Hamamatsu castle (7), Lake Biwa (11) and Kyoto (12)
