Biographical note

1972 was the 50th Anniversary of the first International Congress of Midwives in 1922. The ICM compiled a history of the ICM, The First 50 Years - 1922-1975, and wrote to surviving founder members and leading European midwives of the time requesting their photographs and memories of their respective association, and of midwifery practice, for the article.
