About this work

Description

Possibly a ballet dancer such as Tamara Karsavina, who danced the title role in the Ballets Russes production of Stravinsky's Firebird when it opened in Paris in 1910: a drawing by Kainer for her costume in that role is in Schleswig-Holstein Museums, and a portrait of her by Kainer is apparently included in Tamare Platovne Karsavinoi, St Petersburg 1914. Kainer also produced a set of 21 plates published as Das Leben einer Dame: ein Bilderbuch f.d. elegante Frauenwelt, Berlin: A. Kuhn, 1921: is the present work reproduced there? (OCLC records two copies only, in Frankfurt and Berlin)
