The actor is in drag holding a prop under his chin, gazing at the viewer. The lettering and the inscription on the catalogued print illustrates the use of the question mark after the (usually single) name of the subject to indicate gender ambiguity. The masculine eyebrows and lack of make-up to some degree destroy any illusion of femininity, despite the high quality of the costume
