About this work

Description

In 1971 BE was approached by Penguin Books about doing an up-to-date book on the menopause. This came to nothing as she had other pressing commitments, but a few years later the project was picked up by Pan Books, and Life Change was first published by Pan in 1979. Substantially revised editions were published in 1984 and 1988. This section contains BE's correspondence with editors and her agents about the book, manuscripts and drafts. There are substantial amounts of her research material relating to changing understandings of and schemes for the management of menopause, including interviews, correspondence and notes, medical literature, commercial literature, popular health education material, and increasingly the publications of voluntary organisations concerned in the area.
