Description
Records relating to Professor Kurt Hellmann’s education, career and research in the field of pharmacology, in particular around metastatis and the drugs Razoxane and Dexrazoxane. The collection also includes papers relating to Hellmann's work on a filter to reduce the harmful effects of tobacco and his work on the immunological effects of thalidomide.

Biographical note
Kurt Hellmann was a clinical pharmacologist who emigrated to England from Bavaria in 1933. He was a pioneer in metastasis research and treatment and is recognised for discovering the anti-metastatic activities of the drug Razoxane. He was the founding director of the Cancer Chemotherapy department at Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now Cancer Research UK), whose archives are also held at Wellcome Collection, from 1962-1987 and also based for some time at Westminster Hospital.
