About this work

Description

Collection of notes and extracts, mainly from 16th cent. medical writers, on gynaecology, pathology, pharmacy, etc.; with some medical receipts and clinical notes. In Latin. On the verso of leaf 149 'Dieta Exon' Anno 1613'. Inside the upper cover, in a 17th cent. hand, is the inscription 'Old Dr Gostlin M[agister] Caiensis'. Below this 'Paulin Martin Abingdon from Salkeld's Catalogue, circa 1880'.

1 volume 200 ll. 8vo. 141/2 x 91/2 cm. Original calf gilt binding, with arabesque ornament on sides: gauffered edges.

Biographical note

John Gostlin, M.D. was Master of Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge, 1619-1626, and Vice Chancellor at the time of his death. He practised at Exeter from 1607 to 1619. [Cf. Venn. Biographical History of Gonville & Caius, Vol. III, pp. 74-85].
