Lymphatic filariasis : a winnable battle.

This film is about the effect lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis) has on endemic communities in poorer parts of the world such as South Asia, Africa, South East Asia, the Pacific and the Americas. It includes an account of how the parasite causes the disease and how it effects the body, causing painful disfigurement of the genitals and limbs. A Ugandan man describes how living with the disease has changed his life - his wife has left him and villagers shunned him. At the Fiftieth World Health Assembly an alliance was formed to attempt to eliminate this disease. The film shows how this is being put into practise within endemic communities and the problems healthworkers are faced with.
