Description
Letter dated 6 February 1893 from Sir W J Herschel to Galton regarding further fingerprints obtained from Hooghly in India via F W Duke, Joint Magistrate of Hooghly. Encloses a letter from H Cotton dated 16 January 1893 regarding anthropometry in the identification of criminals. This letter in turn encloses a copy of the Bengal Police Circular No. 1 of 1893 detailing instructions for superintendents when taking measurements of prisoners. Also encloses handwritten notes from F W Duke on the taking of measurements, particularly fingerprints.
Also includes two notes from W J Herschel, one dated 10 November 1892, the other undated, regarding the fingerprints made at Hooghly.
