    m. In some cases of fever,* perspiration is frequently observed to bedew only one side of the body, the mesial line being the boundary. Now if this be, as we may presume it is, a sympathetic affection—for we cannot account for it by any local influence to which that side is exposed—it follows, that the nerves which convey this sym- pathy are symmetrically disposed, which we know not to be the case with the ganglionic. From these arguments we conclude, that the proper ganglionic system is not fitted for the transmission of sympathy. REFLEX ACTION. We now come to consider the doctrine of reflex action or the eoccito-motory theory, which has of late been brought so much into notice by Dr Marshall Hall and his followers.
