Description

Frank Rowntree talks about home accidents which arise as a result of inept DIY. He focusses on polystyrene tiles on the ceiling. He recommends that for maximum safety they should be securely fixed and ideally not decorated. A major fire hazard can arise when gloss paint has been used.

Francis St. D. Rowntree 1928-1996 was awarded the OBE in 1986. In 1987 he was appointed Vice President of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents and also Vice President of the Institute of Health.
For a period in the 1970s, Frank Rowntree was the Health Education Officer for Sheffield. He was invited into the BBC Radio Sheffield studios for a regular short weekly health spot.
