In 2005, Ben Rogers, started to record his life as a heroin addict in the form of a video diary. He recorded 30 hours of footage, which was discovered by his family when he died suddenly aged 34. In stark contrast to his ordinary middle-class life, he also recorded his drug activities. At his death, he had been an addict for 14 years. Although, his family knew about his addiction, they were unaware of the seriousness of his habit. There is graphic footage of him getting his heroin, fixing it and injecting into his groin. The family speak with some poignancy about their memories of Ben. Ben is shown to visibly deteriorate both physically and mentally. When his father was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Ben decided to check himself into a drugs rehabilitation unit. However, within 24 hours he had died of a brain haemorrhage.
