About this work

Description

Simon of Sudbury, Archbishop of Canterbury, was killed in the Peasants' Revolt. He was dragged from the Tower of London to Tower Hill nearby and beheaded. "They also murdered the Prior of St John's, and a Franciscan friar, a doctor of physic, as represented in the illumination" (Humphreys, loc. cit.). In the present depiction two of the turrets of the Tower of London are shown in the left background
